My goodness Jemma. Your eyesight is much better than mine. It must be 'Dacelo novaehollandiae' Also Noah I forgot to say the spotting season is about to hot up in Australia with Spring coming on. Have you got a camera? The wild life will be everywhere soon... especially on the gum leaves. Can't wait to see what you find. :-)

Thanks NSH. The Project Noah database works around the scientific name so if you put something in that field it should be the true binomial taxonomic name (eg. 'Genus species'). Otherwise it's best to leave it blank and conduct discussion in the notes and comments. Love the Sydney gums btw.

Usually any (professional) signs will state species not just genus... ?

Welcome to Project Noah. Are you sure this is not a Corymbia or Angophora. There are several Angophora species from around Sydney. To be certain we would need shots of the leaves and fruits or flowers etc.
