Species ID Suggestions

Horsfield's Bronze-Cuckoo

Chrysococcyx basalis

Thanks Leanne and Kerry for the ID help. I actually had no idea that these shots I'd taken were of a new species for me until I looked at them on the computer! And the only reason the bird got my attention was that it was making such a loud commotion on the wire. I'm with you Shanna - took me ages to find out it was a cuckoo! I'm very excited by this spot as I've never seen a Cuckoo before.
I spent an HOUR ID'ing a photo of one of these for a friend of mine this morning... the shot was taken from the back and I'm still not sure if it's a Bronze Shining or a Horsfield's. (It took me 45 mins to figure out that it was a cuckoo!!!)
I agree with you Leanne. The incomplete chest bars are a giveaway.
Hi Rachael. I'm going with Horsfield's Bronze-Cuckoo here for these reasons. It has a bit of an eye-stripe, it's chest bars are incomplete & it's undertail has a rufous colour in the centre which the Shining Bronze-Cuckoo does not. Of course I'm no expert, hope you can get a confirmation on it :)
