Field Notes

Description:

Jumping spider with elongated abdomen and distinctive spots on the head. Eye placement has four eyes in the front and two pairs on the top. Males are dark brown with two bold white stripes down the back of the abdomen. Females are light tan to light brown.

Habitat:

Deciduous timber adjoined by prairie restoration.

Notes:

I spotted this lovely little lady hanging from a thread right after she ambushed the hopper. She dropped down onto a leaf and just sat there waiting for the hopper to quit squirming. She was quite calm as I photographed her, despite guarding her prey.
