Field Notes

Description:

We were driving along a narrow dirt road in Kruger (S34) when we came round a bend and saw a Giraffe standing astride the road right in front of us so we stopped. I grabbed the camera to take a photo but it had a telephoto lens and we were too close so I only got the neck and head through the windscreen. By the time I got the lens changed it had wandered off to the side. It seemed like we were facing the giraffe for an eternity but the GPS showed we were stationary for less than 2 minutes.

Habitat:

Delagoa Thorn thickets
