Taylor's Snail Eating Snake
Dipsas tenuissima
8.60182, -80.1303
Field Notes
Description:
Different from other snail eaters, this snake belongs to the genus Dipsas. Snaileaters are small snakes with long slender tails. Very arboreal. Young can be black and white, with sub-adults showing both adult and juvenile coloration. Adults are mostly tan-copper with brown banding.
Notes:
Feeds primarily on snails, but also on a diet of amphibian eggs. This species is at risk of decline from bottom-up pressure from the decline in amphibians in the cloud forest of Panama due to the highly detrimental fungus.
