Description:
A pair of rather scruffy-looking Mangrove Buckeye's mating. There were many of these butterflies in the open orchard area and neglected fields where I was staying.
The Mangrove Buckeye or West Indian Buckeye (Junonia evarete) is a neotropical nymphalid butterfly found from Florida and the Caribbean, Mexico, Central America, to tropical and subtropical South America.
1 3/4 - 2 1/4 inches (4.5 - 5.7 cm).
Habitat:
Open tropical lowlands including fields, brushlands, sandy islands.
