Though the antennae do look short, I think either that is a trick of the camera or they were damaged. This looks like a Katydid to me (Sword-bearing Conehead). Take a look at the images in the link I provided to see what you think. :)
It's antennae look short -- that may help ID. This is more closely related to a cricket than a grasshopper. I love the vibrant colour!
This is a katydid. Not sure what kind though.
