White-egg Bird's Nest Fungi

Very exciting find in my backyard today. 1/4-3/8 inches. The bird's nest fungi are so called because they resemble cuplike bird's nests with eggs inside. The eggs are actually little seedlike cases, called peridioles, that contain parts of the spore mass. The nests are splash cups that disperse the eggs when raindrops fall in. Only this bird's-nest fungus has white eggs.
