Leafhopper
Tartessus ferrugineus
15.4563, 119.922
Field Notes
Habitat:
This little Leafhopper nymph was spotted in our backyard on unidentified foliage, growing in a patch of weeds.
Notes:
Cicadellidae; Tartessinae; Tartessini; Tartessus ferrugineus (Walker, 1851). This is a nymph (instar undetermined). "Leafhopper" is a common name which can be applied to any member of the Cicadellidae family. According to the article by the New South Wales Dept. of Primary Industries, this Leafhopper is a pest of Citrus, Figs and other tropical fruits (they state that there is no evidence of this insect being present in Australia). So, I assume that the document is just advisory, concerning the dangers of accidental introduction. My interest in this Australian article is that it states very clearly that the Philippines is included in the distribution list, as follows; " Indonesia, Borneo, Philippines, Singapore, Cambodia, Burma (Myanmar), Malaysia, Japan, Taiwan, China, India, Russia, Micronesia". There is a picture exactly like mine in https://www.singaporegeographic.com/insects/insect/tartessus-ferrugineus.....
