Field Notes

Description:

A small mammal belonging to the mongoose family.

Habitat:

These meerkats where photographed in an enclosure at Butterfly World. They are popular pets amongst many South Africans, but like most pets once they out grow their 'cuteness' they are abandoned or simply dropped off at a shelter. Here they are safe and can enjoy their afternoons in the sun. Sadly they will never live in the wild as they now might carry diseases picked up from domesticated animals.

Notes:

These magnificent animals belong in the wild!

So awesome cool post btw where was it found
Thanks Cindy! And congrats on your 3000! ;)
Sounds amazing Karen!!! You must enjoy and take thousands of pictures!!
Doesn't it though? We're booked with OAT - and they have several great sounding Africa trips. This one best suited to our timing(although I'd have done Tanzania if it hadn't been booked up), our needs and my mom's age. She wanted one more Africa trip before she got too old for the long flight. Give my name if you book one of their trips, LOL. You'll save 100.00 and so will I!
Congratulations on your 1,000th spotting! KarenS, that sounds like a wonderful trip!
We have booked a tour that includes Kruger, Vic Falls(Zimbabwe side), Impalila Island on the Caprivi strip, Chobe park and Hwange park. Not excited or anything! LOL
Thank you Karen! Very excited to be a part of Project Noah and finally reached the 1000 mark!
They are super entertaining KarenS, hope you get to see some this holidays. Where will you be going?
So cute! Congrats on 1,000 great spottings!
They are fun to watch. I hope this December I get to see some in the wild.
