Description:

I wonder if this is the adult of my previous spotting - Lantern Bug Nymph
Zanna madagascariensis - found in the dry area of Southern Madagascar. It was between 1 inch and 2 inches long.

Habitat:

Isalo National Park. A dry rocky park in Southern Madagascar

Notes:

possibly a large fulgorid planthopper

just discovered I made a mistake in the location of this bug. It was found in Isalo Park in the dry rocky area of Madgascar. Same sort of terrain as I found the nymphs in. I really do think that it could be the adult of the nymphs I saw in Anja.

... and the dark spots on the wings seem to be typical.

I'm not surprised, because the head, eye and nose look just like a larger version of the nymphs.

Hi Pam, I'm nearly sure that this a specimen of Zanna madagascariensis - the same species as the nymphs from Anja Reserve.

Not as colourful as the one you spotted though, Dan... Didn't realize hoppers could be so big.

Great spot! I think you're right, it's probably a fulgorid hopper.
