Field Notes
Description:
Tall hairy annual or biennial, growing in large numbers and forming flowering massifs on edges of pathway. Lower leaves palmate, while the upper leaves are narrow lanceolate. Blue-violet flowers, about 2cm in length, with a long upturned spur.
Habitat:
Seen in Krka National Park, on rocky steep slopes next to pathway; on some 10 to 12 m above the water. Pathway, slopes and river abundantly surrounded by a broad-leaved dense forest.
Notes:
Larkspurs in general, containing alkaloid delphinine, are toxic to humans, causing severe digestive discomfort and vomiting if ingested, and skin irritation.
