Field Notes
Description:
A grey-brown moth with a wing span of about 40 mm. Wings were partially tented and they showed zig-zag patterns of brown, black and white lines. Thorax showed a a low profile forward pointing tuft of setae.
Habitat:
Spotted in a nature reserve. The larvae of these moths are said to be 'pests' on pastures. They feed on several herbaceous plants.
Notes:
Hind wings are said to be a fawn colour with no patterns. <br>
My thanks to peter Marriott for the correct ID. This was previously incorrectly identified as Ciampa arietaria. <br> . He suggests that it might be a part of the C.banksiaria group.
