Description:
This is considered a medium-sized bird in the Heron family. While similar to the other egrets it is distinguished by it's snowy white body, black bill and legs, yellow feet and yellow on the face from in front of the eyes to the base of the bill. While they many times show a long outstretched neck, it is not uncommon to see them with their neck tucked in and heat "sitting" directly on their shoulders.
Habitat:
This bird was seen on the shores of a small lake in Southern California (100 masl).
Notes:
There are a series of ponds in California that we like to visit. California is northernmost part of this bird's winter range. The birds are wild and free to come and go, but have gotten "somewhat" used to people where sometimes you can get a pretty good shot before they get scared. The heron family are the most skittish.
