Hi Vinny, this clever insect has fooled you! This is a species of fly that mimics wasps. It looks similar to some of the species of Drone Flies (another type of Syrphid Fly). Body structure looks similar to Tribe Merodontini. Unfortunately, I don't have a good reference for you. Perhaps you can find a local resource for fly species in your area or someone else here might have more knowledge. Hope this helps!
