Field Notes

Description:

Body length 1.1-1.6 inches; Wingspan 1.2-1.7 inches; Males: Head blue with a black stripe and spots behind eyes; Thorax blue on top, fading to lighter shades towards belly; Thorax has a black stripe down middle, a blue stripe on either side and black stripes on either side of those; Abdomen fades from bright blue on top to paler blue below, with distinct black markings up until the last three segments; Legs light-colored with black stripes on outer edges; Females: Similar in color and pattern to male except background color can be blue or light brown; More black markings on abdomen than males.

Habitat:

Trickle trough in greenbelt.
