Beetle Fly
Cephylidae
27.1032, 93.6923
Field Notes
Description:
The Beetle Fly belongs to the family Cephylidae, of the Order Diptera, so it is a fly and not a beetle actually. It is often mistaken for a beetle due to the hard structure on it's back which resembles the beetles' elytra. But the structure on this fly is actually an enlarged scutellum whereas the Beetle's elytra is the hardened fore-wings.
Habitat:
Shrubs and grasses.
