Field Notes

Description:

about 1 cm, black and white banded

Habitat:

actively feeding on flowers of boneset and goldenrod and a small flowering aster

Notes:

very numerous in sun on these flowers, today was the first emergence of this species in this area, they look alot like the baldfaced hornest that hunt for prey on these same plants, one hornet flew by and did not seem to try to attack them, but these hornets also do not attack bumblebees or large wasps
