Field Notes

Description:

Found in Vanderhoof (center of British Columbia, Canada) early this morning. It was cold so my husband put it on the sunny wall to warm up.
This giant butterfly is about the size of an adult humans hand.

Awesome! Thanks. It is the most beautiful moth I have ever seen.
Nope, not lost. This species of moth occurs in your area. This is a Silkmoth from Genus Hyalophora. http://bugguide.net/node/view/4624/bgpage It looks similar to the Colombia Silkmoth but it could also be a hybrid. Not sure at this time.
