Field Notes

Description:

A small and quite colourful bug. I didn't know what type of creature it was until I blew the pics up on the computer. Approximately 4mm long.

Habitat:

On a white car hood under strong night lights.

Notes:

Thanks John La Salle for direction - searching real bugs (Miridae and cousins)
Only one shot unfortunately (and not a good one due to white paint glare) Maybe a nymph but hard to tell. Possibly like this one

Great thanks John. I think the long antennae and large rear legs misled me. A good starting point anyway.
Hi Mark Not a katydid - but a true bug (Hemiptera) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hemiptera Bit hard to tell from the picture, but suspect it might be a plant bug in the family Miridae http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miridae
