Field Notes

Description:

Dorsal (upperside) of female.Wingspan is 1 to 1.25 inches. Female is more heavily patterned than the male, but the markings are more diffuse and tend to be brownish rather than black. The butterfly is pollinating a, 'naturally planted' flowering bush.

Habitat:

Margin of grass and heavily wooded area. A good part of the flight path was close to the ground and inspecting wild flowers.
