Description:

Oxythyrea funesta is a beetle species belonging to the family Cetoniidae. The larvae (30 mm long) feed on plant roots until next spring in the soil. The adults appear early in the spring with a size of 8–12 millimetres. Their colour is black with bronze luster showing white spots on pronotun and on elytra and are completely covered with a white pubescence. Older specimens usually have no hairs, as they are rubbed off with time.

Habitat:

Spotted on a Cistus ladanifer (jara pringosa) flower in an open Mediterranean forest, with Holm oaks and pine trees.

Notes:

They are considered an insect pest that do not just feed on pollen, but rode the floral organs, especially damaging light in colour buds and flowers.
