Field Notes

Description:

Another small rail the Sora is also a secretive bird. Staying most of the time hidden in marshes with tall reeds. Can easily move around in them. Markings on the body is similar to the Virginia Rail. The Sora though has more grey in the chest and belly area. The bill is very short and yellow, and has a black mask around the eyes and bill and the color fades down the front of the neck. The Sora has reddish-brown cap.

Habitat:

Marshes with tall reeds.

Notes:

The Sora didn't move much so I couldn't get good angles. But the second image shows both the Sora and Virginia Rail together and you can see the comparison. I didn't even see them both together til I had it on the computer.
