Field Notes

Description:

It snaps. It has beady red eyes. It has lived in this yard for over 17 years. It is female.
She is between 6 and 9 inches wide (= estimated diameter of shell).
Has prominent claws/nails.
I have seen it swim.

Habitat:

My backyard/garden. 5 blocks up from potomac river. Northern Virginia.

Notes:

Is known to eat watermelon, melon, honeydew, strawberries, tomatoes, uncooked spinach, lettuce, and whatever else it finds to eat in the yard/garden (idk).
Her babies go under the gate each year. Or so we assume... Or at least we know there are always baby turtles that end up in the neighbors' yard each spring. :)

(The date for when I took these pics is not accurate, but yes there is indeed snow on the ground in the first picture).
