Description:
One of the largest whales, adults are over 40 feet long and can weigh over 40 tons. They can be readily identified by their very large pedtoral fins and "knobby" heads.
Habitat:
This was found off shore. The Alaska coast is the summer feeding grounds. Notice the first and last photo. The whales "round up fish" by having one of the whales dive deep, circle the fish and blow bubbles. This confuses the fish and "catches" them in a net of bubbles. When the fish are in a large group the whales come up underneath them and, with mouths full open, have a nice meal!
