Field Notes

Description:

Leptocentrus taurus is a common bug in this part of the Philippines and I have photographed it many times. So I was surprised when I checked the distribution map in gbif.org (where observations are indicated by yellow dots) and saw that it is present in many countries throughout Asia and Southeast Asia, but not one yellow dot on the Philippines. However, in the paragraph immediately under the map, It states "This insect is widely distributed in India, Ceylon, Borneo, Timor, and the Philippines."

Habitat:

These Horned Treehoppers were spotted in the rice mill backyard, on Tropical Whiteweed (Ageratum conyzoides Linn.), known in the Philippines as Bulak-manok.
