Field Notes

Description:

I get these spiders in my house ALL the time during autumn, usually at least one a day. This one was in my bathtub. They're usually in the bathroom or kitchen. I've learned to put up with them, more or less, but they're often rather startling when I find them unexpectedly.

I've added new pictures of ones I found elsewhere in the house, showing the eyes.

Species ID Suggestions

Thin-legged Wolf Spider

Pardosa spp.

I think the thin-legged wolf spider has legs that are more spotty than my guys.
If it's not, I'm sure someone will correct you and explain why :) I know very little about spiders, so it looks right to me!
Thanks AshleyT! I'm still not 100% sure my ID is right, but I THINK it's right, so I've edited it now.
Hi Grace, you don't need to suggest an ID for your own spottings. Simply click the "edit this spotting" button at the top right and put in the ID yourself.
I think I've figured it out. It's a "rabid wolf spider." I took more photos with flash to reflect the eye pattern, and it definitely has wolf spider eyes.
Hi Tatiana! Your spider is similar, but mine is a bit more slender and striped and not as hairy. Mine still might be a wolf spider, but I just don't know.
Hi!!! i found the same spider!!! Wolf Spider im not really sure, but i found a similar one, http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/21513227/fullscreen
Well now I just don't know, looked at grass spiders and went back and looked at what I thought was same spider someone ID for me in the past, they both look similar. I am sure someone more experienced, will come along and clear it all up ;)
I wish that was the case! I don't think they actually make their homes in my house. I usually find them wandering around looking for a place to hide, or shriveled up dead. I think they just come inside to escape the cold.
On the plus side, you probably will not have other pest problems :)
Oh ok. Yikes, somehow that's more disturbing to me that my house is full of wolf spiders. I think of them as the huge predators of the outdoors.
It is definitely a wolf spider, they come in different shapes and sizes.
I don't know about a wolf spider. Its body is much more slender. Can wolf spiders be that slender?
