Field Notes

Description:

Dark-brown carapace (the “head”), grey abdomen, and banded legs. Males are very small, and are often difficult to locate in the web of the female.

Habitat:

Spotted at Perth area during a day walk.
They occur all over Australia, building large webs with yellow silk which shine like gold in sunlight.

She's a lovely big gird. Great spotting, and awesome pics. I had hundreds of these in my yard a few years back. Just as well I'm not arachnophobic, otherwise hanging the washing would have been a life and death struggle.
