Field Notes

Description:

A tiny unidentified fly with longitudinal irridescent blue areas between (parallel to) the wing veins, visible depending on the agle of view.

Habitat:

Observed on the leaf of a Brazilian button flower (Centratherum punctatum) growing in a large semi-urban yard & garden from a disturbed remnant patch of forest in the equatorial tropics of northern New Guinea.

Species ID Suggestions

Perhaps something from Family Tephritidae? It reminds me of some of the Fruit Flies I have seen with the body shape and patterned wings.
