Field Notes

Description:

A bee defending its hive and its (offspring?) from weaver ants.
To my surprise, the weaver ants gave up after a few hours.

Habitat:

3/4" hole at a mango tree branch.

Species ID Suggestions

Tropical carpenter bee

Xylocopa latipes

@mrsPbio the bee inside was really tough too. It was using its abdomen to block the entrance and made high pitch sounds from its wings to frighten the ants outside. I was frightened too. haha
