Field Notes

Description:

Green grasshoppers with black herringbone markings on their hind femora. I spotted these two mating (male is smaller and is on dorsal surface of female). In the second photo, I was trying to get a shot of the actual mating action, but instead captured a shot of the male defecating. Apparently, he couldn't hold it any longer.

Habitat:

In the brush on the side of a large pond.

Notes:

In photos 1 and 3, you can see a small brown moth on the left - this moth is a Purple Carrot-seed Moth (Depressaria depressana).
