Field Notes

Description:

This Mushroom/fungi/toadstool is about 4-5 inches tall and the caps grow to a little less than 2 inches. When they first appear at ground level they are just a small cap similiar to an inverted acorn and 1/4 to 1/2 wide..they then grow a stem and open to what you see in these pictures

Habitat:

It is growing in the dead roots of a Cherry tree. It has been raining more than usual lately and that is when they started growing. Urban backyard

Notes:

I suspect they are bad critters and dig they out as often as I can to avoid my dog from eating them.... althou she seems little interested in them.
