Field Notes

Description:

A black bird with a red patch on the shoulder. This subspecies, sometimes called the bicolored blackbird, does not have a yellow bar under the red patch as other populations have.

Habitat:

tall weeds next to a lake.

Notes:

I think this one had a nest somewhere. Even when I got pretty close to take a picture it didn't fly away, and kept on chasing crows away from its patch of weeds.
The call was a metallic trill.
