Field Notes

Description:

Large, orange and brown banded moth, 3 cm long. Family Geometridae, Subfamily Larentiinae.

Habitat:

On the garden wall in the afternoon. Semi-rural residential area, San Cristobal de Las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico 2,200 meters.

I always have a problem with these. I would have thought maybe Sterhinae or Larentiinae straight off but I know the Nocs can look like all sorts of things. Just thought you might have some special insight on this one. Let's hope a serious moth person can name it :)
