Field Notes

Description:

Very small....would fit on a quarter. Unable to locate anything similar on line.

Habitat:

Spotted at Cheekwood Botanical Gardens in Nashville, Tennessee. During the heat of the day, and behaved much like a dragonfly.

Species ID Suggestions

Syrphid fly

Pelecinobaccha costalis

Could potentially be an Ocyptamus sp., so emphasis on "suggestion." One of those two genera, though.
Thank you!! Syrphidae is MUCH closer! I'll search that and see if I can't track him/her down! The Neoascia podagrica doesn't have the wings that go straight out to the side, but looks very similar. Much appreciated!!
Definitely not dragonfly, but maybe something in the Syrphidae family. Something like Neoascia podagrica
