It was returned, yes. Found it when we were looking at my buddy's garden and I accidentally kicked it because I didn't see it. His mom brought it inside to show the younger kids that were running around.
These box turtles are terrestrial which not many associate them as when they think of turtles. The link in the suggestion should help and provide interesting information and facts about them.
That looks like an Eastern Box Turtle. I hope he was returned to the wild where he was found. These turtles need all the help they can get. They are slow to reproduce and will go to great lengths to get to where they are going.
