Field Notes

Description:

Medium size dog (usually golden coloured fur, but sometimes black, with mixtures of coat colour & pattern), athletic/thin build, bushy tail fur. Meat, insects, berries form the diet of the dingo. The call is usually a howl with some yelping.

Habitat:

Free ranging dog found in Australia and south east Asia in all types of habitat. This one in central desert region of Australia.

Thanks venusflytrap2000. While camped out in the desert we would always wake to find dingo footprints outside the tent.

Thanks beaker98. Yes pretty much considered a pest by most. 'Pure' strain almost completely tainted by feral/domestic dog breeds. Although it's considered a 'native' and ingrained into indigenous culture due to the time it has been here, I am in the camp of those who see it as an early invader into Australia from Asia and over time has changed the face of the country and its wildlife.
