Field Notes

Description:

The perfect alignment of this swallowtail moth's (Uraniidae) broken wings to the scars and veins on the underside of a leaf give rise to an optical illusion, as if the moth is inserted in the middle of the leaf!.

Habitat:

Observed in a large semi-urban yard & garden from a disturbed remnant patch of forest in the equatorial tropics of northern New Guinea.
