Field Notes

Description:

Passerine bird with dimensions of about 14 cm in length and 16 grams in weight. It owes its name to the fact that, from the rump to the tail, its feathers are reddish in color. The rest of the feathers are dark gray, darker in the case of the male than in the female and chicks. Males have pale wing spots.

Habitat:

On the roof of a country house on the outskirts of the city of Valencia. Black Redstart builds its nest with grass, twigs and other plant material and frequently places it in buildings, patios, sheds or any slightly protected hole.
