Field Notes

Description:

This is a male of Great Eggfly (also called the Blue Moon Butterfly or Common Eggfly) that i found on the jack-fruit tree in my backyard. The upper side of the wings are jet black, offset with three pairs of white spots &two on the forewing and one on the hind. These white spots are surrounded by purple iridescence. In addition, the upper side of the hind wing bears a series of small white dots. The wingspan of this butterfly is about 75 mm.

Habitat:

- Spotted on the jack-fruit tree in my backyard. Usually, it can be found around the garden and bushes.
