Field Notes

Description:

Leaves similar to Fenugreek (Methi), Trigonella foenum-graecum. Yellow flowers.

Habitat:

Growing wild in Ladakh region. I was astonished to see it growing in such barren habitat.

Notes:

I thought the species are similar...at least the leaves are.

Methi seeds are supposed to be medicinal for diabetes...some soak it overnight and drink the water (eat the seeds too)...have never tried fish with methi....and no issues with beef with me. :)
Not at all. We eat meats rarely but I like use a tiny amount of dried in chicken and in fish curry (Kerala style), fresh (lots) in beef dish (sorry if you don't hurt cattle),.. but a wonderful herb when used properly. The leaves do look similar.
PS. Dried methi is called Kasuri methi here...excellent with chicken...oops hope you are not a vegetarian and I have not offended you.
Thanks Mark Ridgway. I crushed a leaf...it did not smell of methi. We eat fresh methi leaves (cooked) and use the methi seeds for tempering. So, I know the smell, well (almost poetry, here!) This was not methi...besides, some of these similarly-leaved plants had mauve flowers others had yellow...I am intrigued.
Did you test the taste and smell? Methi is much stronger when dried.. unlike most herbs.
