Cane Spider
Heteropoda venatoria
15.4558, 119.922
Field Notes
Description:
This is the smallest (and presumably the youngest) Cane Spider I have seen. I could not measure it because the camera flash scared it and it skedaddled, but I estimate its body length (excluding legs) to be about 10 mm. Even allowing a considerable margin of error, this spider will grow to four or five times its present size and that means several moults. I am not sure, but I think that this is a young male, going by the legs. The distinctive patterns on the Carapace and Abdomen which make the male unmistakable will probably become visible after one or two more moults.
Habitat:
Spotted on the floor, in our terrace, at around 9:00 p.m. this evening.
