Field Notes

Description:

Evergreen broadleaves shrub in the Ericaceae family with bright pink flowers and pleasant smell.

Habitat:

Found them in patches high up the mountains (over 1500 m I estimated)

Notes:

The southern and south-eastern exposed slopes were richer in flowering patches. It just started to flower so the landscape was not that spectacular yet. It is a protected species in the Carpathian Mountains of Romania, these ones here were in a natural reserve.
They are also used in making jams and syrups.
