Field Notes

Description:

A very unusual migrant in SW Ohio. Expecting shorebirds during the fall migration on the mudflat, I was more than a little surprised to find this American White Pelican. Notice the band on its leg.

Habitat:

mudflat

Their migration takes them along the Mississippi River which is 3-400 miles West of here. We seem to get 1 or 2 "strays" each year.
May be because of the changing weather that they have expanded their migration territories?
