Field Notes

Description:

large bird, sexual dimorphism with females larger than males; female wingspan approx. 8 ft., male approx. 6 ft.; dark talons, beaks and eyes; eat mostly fish but have been seen to take shore birds; large range sub sahara; breed in dry season and eggs number 1-3. Incubation mostly by female but male will take over when female hunts.

Habitat:

near large bodies of open water with plentiful fish supply
