Description:

Part of the phylum Pteridophyta, this "true fern" is one of the may local ferns in the area. This particular fern can be found all along the East Coast, as well as in mountain areas and the west const in places such as Washington State and Oregon. This is considered an ornamental due to its obvious leaf display.

Habitat:

Moist woods, stream-banks and rocky slopes from low to moderate altitudes.
Circumboreal, south to Oregon with isolated populations in inter-mountain states, mid-west, and throughout New England south to Virginia.

Notes:

This particular plant is one of many whose ancestors provide us with coal despoits!
