Field Notes

Notes:

I came upon this kingfisher in our backyard in Roma. I was surprised to see it there as I have only ever seen this species near coastal rivers; however, I have since learned that they inhabit woodlands, mangroves and paperbark forests, tall open eucalypt forest and melaleuca forest, and do most of their foraging on land, only occasionally eating fish.

lovely photos of these stunning little birds.
I have a question, I live in Saskatchewan and this spring I spotted this nest that was about 10 times bigger than a normal nest and was humongous I was just wondering iif you would happen to know what that might be well I mean what type of animal might live in it.
My that is amazing! See I use an ipod touch because I dont really have a camera well I do but its my mom's and she says she doesn't want me to use cause I never put it away, and Ill check that link out! :)
I have a Canon DSLR, but my husband uses a compact and his pictures are fantastic too. All the pictures in his collection were taken with his compact. http://www.projectnoah.org/users/NathBig
Absolutely! It's amazing what you see and learn once you really start looking!
I agree lots of people just sit inside and play games but I think its a good idea to see nature! get some fresh air and discover things that maybe have already been discovered but maybe you havnt seen it yourself in person.
Thanks wildsweld and Technophony13! Technopony - there are many kinds of birds that I've only seen once. Some of them I've managed to photograph and some of them I've missed... but I am always hopeful that I'll see them again. I figure the more time I spend outdoors, the better chance I have! : )
Wow its a beauty! I wish I saw animals like this, I live on a farm and earlier this year I had spotted a orange and black bird I got closer when it all of a sudden started chasing me! It was in the cat tails so Im guessing it had a nest in their although I had no clue what type of bird it was though.
Beautiful capture! What a lovely bird!
