Field Notes

Description:

This hawk was trying to get into our outdoor aviary for some Dove and Wood Duck breakfast. It was very bold and let me get quite close to it. This hawk has yellow-orange eyes and a blue-brown back. The breast is light red with bars. Unfortunately I don't have a shot showing the end of the tail to definitively differentiate this from the Sharp-shinned Hawk. The latter usually is in this area over the winter, whereas the Coopers is here year round.

Habitat:

It stayed in the avocado tree above the backyard aviary then flew into the neighbors yard when I purposely scared it away.
