Field Notes

Description:

This shiny jewel is a polyphagous bug feeding on leaves, twigs and fruits of various plants (e.g. Litchi chinensis); by de-sapping it causes damage to these food plants of economic value. The name of the bug family is either jewel bugs or shield-backed bugs, due to the enlargement of the last section of their thorax into a continuous shield over the abdomen and wings.
