Description:

Saddleback or Tieke (Philesturnus carunculatus)

Habitat:

Gondwanaland remnant forest.

Notes:

Ulva Island bird sanctuary. This species had declined to only 36 birds. After a very successful rescue program there are now at least 700 Tiekes spread over several off-shore islands.
